Free

I did the best I could, I tried very hard.
I did not know I would come this far.
I did my best, thought it was not enough,
so in the end it got too tough.
I fought so hard, I never gave in,
this constant battle I wanted to win.
but I am tired now, it has been too long,
every day I have had to be strong.
can I close my eyes and wish to be free,
of all this pain and hurt deep inside of me?
I want to open my wings and fly away,
to some distant place and better days.
